NASCAR fines Craven’s crew chief

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – NASCAR officials handed out fines to eight crew chiefs for rules violations the past two weekends at Talladega Superspeedway and California Speedway.

Mike Beam, crew chief for Ricky Craven’s Ford was fined $500 for failing to return the car’s impact data recorder to officials following the NAPA 500.

The biggest of the fines announced Tuesday was $1,500 to Steve Lane, crew chief of Kyle Petty’s Dodge. Lane was fined $1,000 for having a rear spoiler not conforming to NASCAR rules and $500 for an illegal fuel cell container at Talladega.

Other fines from Talladega included $1,000 to Michael McSwain, crew chief of Ricky Rudd’s Ford; $500 to Doug Richert, crew chief of Brett Bodine’s Ford; $250 to Buddy Barnes, crew chief of Casey Atwood’s Dodge; and $250 for Gary Cogswell, crew chief of the Busch Series Dodge of Hank Parker Jr.

Three additional penalties were announced for violations in California.

Greg Steadman, crew chief for John Andretti’s Dodge, and Bryan Frazier, crew chief on teammate Steve Grissom’s Intrepid, were each fined $1,000 for non-conforming axles.
