Long Beach State University officials are not planning to name a new women’s basketball coach until next Friday, the school announced Sunday.
Trish Roberts, the head coach at the University of Maine, is a finalist for the position along with Long Beach assistants Glenn McDonald and Coleen Matsuhara. McDonald is a former Boston Celtics player.
Becca Wohlt, an assistant sports information director at the school, said Sunday she was told Friday that the school will not name its new coach until May 10 at the earliest.
“I don’t know why. I suppose you could read a lot of things into it,” Wohlt said. “There are a lot of rumors flying around, but I can’t give you an accurate reason.”
Roberts, who was offered the Memphis State women’s coaching position last month, interviewed for the position last week.
She has been on vacation and unavailable for comment.
