Foley lifts Hawks past Beavers

HODGDON – Rob Foley doubled home the game-winner in the last of the sixth inning as the Hodgdon Hawks edged Washburn 3-2 in a schoolboy baseball pitchers’ duel here Thursday.

Jered Stewart pitched a 3-hitter for the Hawks, walking only one while striking out 7 Beavers. Both Washburn runs were unearned.

Foley had two doubles and Andy Albert a triple for the 9-3 Hawks.

John Holmquist pitched well for the 3-7 Beavers, striking out five and spacing five hits. Jason Theriault, Andy Churchill and Holmquist had singles for Washburn.

Limestone 11, Madawaska 3

At Limestone, Robert Carroll keyed the victory from the plate and the pitcher’s mound as the Eagles won their fifth game in nine outings.

Carroll posted a double and single while at the plate and scattered seven hits to earn the complete-game win. John Powers added a double, single and RBI while Tony Tobin had a 2-run triple and Derek Robbins had a 2-run double.

For 8-4 Madawaska, Scott Lajoie had a single and a double and Pierre Michaud posted 2 singles and an RBI.

Fort Kent 23, Wisdom 7

At St. Agatha, Ted Rioux drove in 2 runs with 2 singles and a triple to lead the visiting Warriors to the victory.

Steve Jalbert added 2 singles while Thurston Voisine had a bases-loaded triple. The win moved Fort Kent to 5-3.

For 0-9 Wisdom, Scott Guerrette had 2 singles and an RBI while Glenn Paradis had a 2-run single.

At Lincoln, David Hainer had a double, single, and RBI to lead host Mattanawcook to their 10th win in 14 outings.

Aaron Weed struck out 8 and walked 5 to earn the victory while losing pitcher Steve Coombs had 8 strikeout and 8 walks. MA also took advantage of 7 wild pitches by Coombs, who beat the Lynx 5-3 earlier in the year.

Scott Tash added a 2-run double for MA.

Lee, 9-4, was led by Dwayne Grass with a single, double, and 2 RBIs while Aaron Knowles had a 2-run double.

Penquis 5, Schenck 4

At Penquis, Wade Sickler singled four times, including a shot with 2 outs in the bottom of the seventh inning which knocked in the fifth and winning run as the Patriots edged the Wolverines.

Abe Chase and Matt Grindle added 2 singles apiece for the 4-7 Patriots. Pitcher Ryan O’Connor went the distance, striking out 7 batters, to improve his record to 1-1.

Mike Faloon singled and knocked in 2 runs for the 4-6 Wolverines of East Millinocket and Roger Morin singled twice.

Averill 2, Charleston Chr. 1

At Hinckley, a balk produced the winning run in the last of the seventh for Averill School as they nipped visiting Charleston.

Charleston, 5-5, had scored the game’s first run in the top of the seventh on Brian Topolski’s RBI single.

Averill, 3-3, scored to tie it on a run-scoring hit by Shawn McFarland, prior to the balk that ended the game. Doug Harrison had two singles for the winners.

For the visitors, Eric Kepple had a double and two singles and Danny Parks two singles.

At Dover-Foxcroft, Brook Carlton’s RBI single in the top of the ninth gave the Pirates of Guilford the winning edge.

The Pirates rallied for two runs in the ninth. A two-base error, walk, and fielder’s choice produced the inning’s first run.

Foxcroft tied it in the seventh on an RBI double by Wayne Hall.

Argo Regan paced the 10-2 winners with a two-run homer and single. James Oldfield chipped in with two singles to help back winning pitcher Travis McKenney, who scattered six hits while striking out six.

Mario DeIeso singled twice and drove in a run for 4-7 Foxcroft. Mike Smith contributed an RBI single.
