Rockport Public Library to observe National Library week, April 22- 28

ROCKPORT — Marjorie Dodge, head librarian at the Rockport Public Library, announced that several special events will take place during National Library Week, April 22-28.

During this week, schools and public libraries across the nation will hold “Family Read-Alouds,” with celebrity guests, who will read to audiences from their favorite books. Moreover, these “Read-Alouds,” will focus attention on family literacy and the importance of families reading together. The theme for the week is “Reach For A Star. Ask A Librarian.”

The Rockport Library will offer its regularly scheduled Story Hour on Tuesday, April 24, with Pat Nook as the reader. Available in the library, to children of all ages, will be special bookmarks; also, there will be a poster featuring “Best Books,” according to age level, as well as other handouts and posters.

On Thursday, April 26, the “Friends of the Rockport Library” will sponsor a special group, the Conservatory of American Literature, which will offer an open poetry reading from 7 to 9 p.m., under the direction of Miles Robinson.

During National Library Week, “Friends of the Rockport Library” will be actively recruiting new members. Anyone interested in volunteering services may sign up at the library.

To conclude this special week, the “Friends” will be having their annual Open House and Tea, from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 29. The group will be honoring Jennifer Ruddy for her volunteer services to the Rockport Library. The public is welcome to attend any of these events.
