Acadia National Park announces fees, dates

BAR HARBOR — Acadia National Park Acting Superintendent Len Bobinchock announced that the Park Visitor Center at Hulls Cove opened May 1. Other opening dates for Park facilities are : Sieur de Monts Nature Center, June 21; and Islesford Historic Museum, June 17.

Entrance fees will be collected from May 1 through October 31 at the entrance station north of Sand Beach on the Park Loop Road. The fee is $5 per private vehicle, $2 per person in a tour group, or $2 per person without a vehicle.

The fee covers a one-week stay in Acadia. If you visit many national parks, you may prefer to purchase a $25 annual Golden Eagle Pass which provides entry to all Park Service fee areas. If you are handicapped or if you are 62 or older, free Golden Age and Golden Access Passes are available that offer free entry and half-price camping in Acadia and other Federal parks, monuments, and recreation areas. Annual, Golden Eagle, Golden Age, and Golden Access passes are available at Park Headquarters on Route 233 in Bar harbor, weekdays 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. After May 1, you can obtain all passes at the entrance station. If you are a camper eligible for a Golden Age or Golden Access Pass, you can pick one up at the ANP campgrounds after May 22.

Ticketron, a national computerized reservation service, will again accommodate visitors planning to reserve campsites at Blackwoods Campground. Campers may reserve Blackwoods sites for the period June 15 through September 15, either in person at a Ticketron sales terminal, by mail to Ticketron Reservation Office, P.O. Box 617516, Chicago, Illinois 60661-7516, or by calling 1-800-452-1111 (there is a $4 convenience fee for each phone transaction). Campers may reserve sites up to 56 days in advance of the camping date. After May 20, campers may also reserve sites in person at Blackwoods. The remainder of the year, the campground operates on a first-come first-serve basis.

The Seawall Campground, operated on a first-come first-served basis, is scheduled to open May 22 and close September 30.
