Bulldogs hold off Panthers

WALDOBORO – Will Richard scored on a sacrifice fly by Leon Russell in the sixth inning and pitcher Russ Ackley snuffed out a Medomak rally to lead Lawrence to a 4-2 high school baseball victory over Medomak Valley on Tuesday.

After Lawrence added an insurance run in the seventh, Medomak loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning with one out. Ackley struck out the next two Panthers, though, to preserve the win.

Ackley finished with eight strikeouts, and Pat McLauchlin recorded two singles and scored twice.

Jon Burns led the Panthers with two doubles, a single, an RBI, and a run scored.

At Guilford, Bryan White’s two-run double kicked off a six-run second inning that propelled the Pirates to the win.

White finished with two doubles, a single, and four RBIs; Buddy Bates added a solo homer in the first, a double, and three RBIs; winning pitcher Ben Smith aided his own cause with two doubles, a single, and two RBIs; and John Luellen had two singles. Smith allowed only four hits and struck out four to pick up the win.

Robbie Girvan rapped a two-run single in the first and Chris Parker had a double.

At Dexter, Nate Cousineau slammed a two-run home run and singled to help the Lynx of Lincoln beat the Tigers.

Tyler Libbey chipped in with a solo home run and RBI single for the winners and Tom Lasko doubled, singled and drove in two runs.

Adam Russell doubled twice for Dexter and Ross Morrison singled twice and drove in two runs.

At Brewer, Andrew Patterson and Caleb McGary combined on a three-hitter as the Witches knocked off Nokomis of Newport.

Joel Barrett had a triple, double, and one RBI to lead Brewer. Tony Doucette hit a two-run double while Shawn Sutherland had a three-run single. Zach Bouzan-Kaloustian hit an RBI double while Chris Cote and John Rohn each had RBI singles.

Ben Davis led the Warriors with two singles and Jody Mullis doubled.

At Hermon, Chris Davi pitched a two-hitter with five strikeouts to help lead Mount Desert Island to victory.

Brian Greenleaf hit three singles and had an RBI, while V.J. Greenleaf had an RBI on two singles.

Matt Watson and Jason Shorey had a single apiece for Hermon.

At East Millinocket, Matt Wark leads Stearns with a trio of singles.

Ryan Bouchard hit a double and a single with one RBI. Craig Cullen had a pair of singles and an RBI for Stearns.

Pat Jamo hit a triple, Adam Dempsey had a single, double, and three RBIs, Jarod Desantis hit a double and a single, and Mike Albert hit two singles for Schenck.

At Ellsworth, Billy Chapman scattered five hits over five innings, striking out six and walking one, and he helped his own cause with two singles and two RBIs.

Zach Means had three singles and two RBIs for the Crusaders while Chapman, Zev Myerowitz, and Bryan Snyder had two singles and two RBIs each.

Travis Jordan doubled and singled and drove in a run for Ellsworth.

At Howland, Blair Emery hit a double and a single for one RBI to help lead Lee Academy to the win.

Bruce Stevens had a double and two singles for the Pandas while Gary Worster had an RBI on two singles.

Trey Miller knocked in four with a single and a double for Penobscot Valley while Josh Ireland and Lance Pelkey each doubled.

At Orono, Mike Merritt’s two-run double to deep center field with one out in bottom of the sixth capped a three-run rally that wiped out a 5-3 deficit.

Brandon Terrill’s single, an infield error, a fielder’s choice and a wild pitch produced the first run before a botched rundown between third and home brought Merritt to the plate with runners on second and third.

Merritt had a single to go with his double and Bo Thomas chipped in with a two-run triple and double. Terrill had two base hits.

Shawn Tidwell had two singles and two RBIs for Old Town. Mike Russell had two singles and an RBI and Andy Pease had an RBI double.

At Wisdom, Todd Thibeault and Andrew Gervais combined on a two-hitter, striking out 14 and walking six, and Brad Thibeault’s second homer of the season proved to be the game-winner in the third inning.

Dan Buckley and Jason Thompson combined on a four-hitter for Washburn, striking out 10 and not walking anybody.

Buckley doubled and scored the Washburn run on a passed ball.

Woodland’s Gervais, Jason Bouchard, and Chris Pelletier and Washburn’s Trevor Thibodeau all had singles.

Kristin MacKenzie and Holly Franck each had two singles for the Minutemen.

Jessica Day hit two singles for the Wolverines while Lynn Farrington helped out with a single.

Jody Harvey hit a two-run home run and doubled for Central of Corinth.

At Hampden, Rachael Dube doubled and singled and drove in three runs and Shelby Soohey contributed two singles and two RBIs as Bangor built an 11-2 lead and withstood a Hampden rally.

Sisters Meghan and Stephanie Chase had two singles each for Bangor and Ashley Tower doubled.

Kristina Spaulding had three singles and two RBIs for Hampden; Sara Lozito doubled and singled and drove in three runs; Katie Lindemann tripled and singled and Evon Hudspeth singled twice as did Jillian Yarmatino.

At Ellsworth, Holly Tripp led Ellsworth with two singles for an RBI.

Tess Bickford hit three singles and scored a run for the Eagles while Krystal Roberts added two singles. Mallory Patten and Rebecca Saunders contributed with an RBI single apiece.

Amanda Sangillo had three RBIs on two doubles and a single for John Bapst while Rebecca Stevens helped out with two runs and a single.

At Dexter, the Tigers took advantage of 13 walks and two outstanding defensive plays to defeat the Lynx of Lincoln.

Center fielder Brittany Veazie made a diving catch with runners on base to end the fourth inning, and Sarah Carnes made an over-the-shoulder catch in the seventh, threw to the shortstop, who threw on to first to double up the runner.

Veazie finished with two RBIs on bases-loaded walks.

Lyndsey Shorey hit an RBI single for the Lynx.

At Brewer, Melissa Wolfe comes home from third to score the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to give Brewer the win.

Caitlin Coutts hit a RBI single. Sherri Capponi had a pair of singles including the game tying RBI for Brewer.

Delainie Farnham had a RBI single. Kaysea Grignon hit a double. Danielle Clark hit a home run and had two RBIs. Aimee Paradis hit a double for Nokomis.

At Orono, Mary Wollstadt pitched a four-hitter and Jessica Paul contributed three singles and four RBIs as the Indians beat the Red Riots.

Meghan King and Megan Swandal each had two singles and an RBI for Old Town. Jill Ouellette hit a triple.

Singles by Hilary See, Molly Dupere, Emily Reed and Felicia King were Orono’s lone hits.

At Sherman Station, Amanda Fitzpatrick hit three singles and an RBI double in the top of the sixth that helped Hodgdon secure the lead.

Erin Foster had three singles for the Hawks while Sarah Quint, Alisha Dwyer and Heather Martin each added two singles.

Jayme Green led Katahdin with four RBIs on two singles while Megan Libby hit two doubles and a single. Krystle McMoarn contributed with a single and a double while Morgan Anderson chipped in with two singles.
