PRESQUE ISLE – The Presque Isle Wildcats swept both ends of Friday’s schoolboy baseball doubleheader against Nokomis of Newport 13-12 in eight innings in the first game and 11-6 in the second game Friday.
Aaron Kirstad’s one-out fielder’s choice RBI in the bottom of the eighth inning in game one led Presque Isle over the Warriors.
The Warriors had trailed by six runs heading into the sixth inning, but a solo home run by Josh Bile and a two-run shot by Brendan Gee in the sixth inning, along with Gee’s RBI single that erased a one-run deficit in the seventh, helped Nokomis stay alive.
Kirstad led the Wildcats in game one with three doubles, a single and two RBIs. He added a single and a double in game two. Kyle Gagnon pitched the first six innings of game one and returned to pitch the eighth inning. He struck out seven batters.
Gee finished with four singles, a home run and two RBIs in game one and two doubles in game two for Nokomis. Bile finished with a single and a solo home run in game one and two singles and an RBI in game two.
Fred Bird earned the win for the Wildcats in game two, striking out four batters and allowing one walk. He also hit singles to knock in three runs in game two and had two doubles, a single, and three RBIs in game one.

At Washburn, Corey Shields hit a solo home run and a double to lead Southern Aroostook.
Zack Austin hit a double and a single with two RBIs for the winners.
Dan Buckley hit a pair of singles and Jason Thompson had a double for Washburn. A.J. Carter had his first hit of the season and knocked in three RBIs.

At Woodland, defense led the way as two double plays with no outs stopped two scoring opportunities for Narraguagus.
In the first inning, with runners on first and third, shortstop Jeremy Gillespie and catcher Chad Pike teamed up for the double play as the Knights of Harrington attempted a double steal. Another double play in the top of the sixth inning with no outs with runners on first and second ended a scoring opportunity for the Knights. Third baseman Tony Alviar, second baseman Andrew Knapp and first baseman Justin McCoubrey turned the second double play.
Gillespie led Woodland with three singles, five RBIs, including a bases-loaded triple, scored three runs and stole four bases. Pike added three singles, a triple and three RBIs.
Corey Worcester led Narraguagus with a single and three-run double and Mike Beal added a double, a triple and an RBI.

At Limestone, Steve Hardwick struck out 13 batters, walked one, and threw a six-hitter in addition to leading the offense in Limestone’s victory.
Hardwick had a double and three singles for the Eagles. Eric Crook had three singles and four RBIs, Josh Knoll doubled twice, and Ryan O’Neal singled twice.
Jake Chambers singled twice and drove in two runs for the Tigers.

At Fort Kent, Alex Daigle hit a three-run home run in the first for Madawaska. Daigle also had a single. Peter Gerard had a double and a single with one RBI.

At Limestone, Terri Lynch tripled, doubled, singled, and drove in four runs to power the Tigers by the Eagles.
Brittney Guio chipped in with three singles and Brooke McCrum and Dani Searles each doubled and singled for the winners. Kelly Sayers, Ashlee Bubar, and Ellie Arato each added two singles.
Erica Bickford doubled, singled, and drove in three runs for the Eagles. Lindsey Beaulieu and Ashley Brooker each added two singles.

Presque Isle sweeps Nokomis
At Presque Isle, the Wildcats managed to pull out two tough wins over the Warriors 4-2 and 2-1.
In the first game, Marigan Bishop’s one-out pinch-hit single in the seventh inning drove in the winning run. Ashley Putnam drove in the Wildcats’ first run of the game.
Tina Turner had a double and a single to lead Nokomis of Newport.
In the second game, Melissa Pelletier returned to action for the first time since breaking her knuckles in a preseason accident. Pelletier promptly had the big blow in Presque Isle’s three-run fifth inning when she slammed an RBI double.
Lauren Williams had a double, single, and an RBI, while Putnam singled twice and scored a run for Presque Isle.
Michelle Murray had a double and two singles for the Warriors, Kaycea Grignon had a pair of singles and an RBI, Tina Turner singled twice, and Darcy Hopling had two singles, an RBI, and scored a run.

At Woodland, Ashley Woodward struck out 15 and allowed only one walk and two hits for Narraguagus.
Missy Barbee hit three singles and Woodward added a two-run single. Mary Eva Tenan had two singles and a RBI. Heather Fitzpatrick also had two singles and a RBI.
Megan Lord and Katie Holmes had Woodland’s only two hits.

At Fort Kent, the Warriors were able to overcome a one-run deficit in the bottom of the sixth inning as two runs scored on an infield error and starting pitcher Meaghan Minzy singled in an insurance run.
Minzy struck out two batters, and had the only RBI for the Warriors as all four other runs scored on errors.
Danielle Pinnette led the Owls with two singles and an RBI. Madawaska’s two additional runs scored on errors. Ashley Bouchard struck out eight for Madawaska.

At Ashland, Pam Spooner led the Hornets from the mound and from the plate as she pitched the complete game and struck out nine batters and hit a two-run home run.
Spooner’s home run followed a bases-loaded triple by Ashley Sutherland as part of an eight-run second inning. Spooner added a two-run single and Sutherland added another single. Beth Chamberlain added two RBI singles.
Alicia Rideout led the Panthers of Mars Hill with an RBI triple and Danielle Larrabee added an RBI single.

At Orono, led by Michelle Benoit’s nine strikeouts and Molly Dupere’s four RBIs, the Red Riots picked up their first win of the season in a battle of winless teams.
Dupere finished with three doubles and four RBIs. Dupere’s two-run double in the bottom of the second sparked a five-run inning as Orono took a 5-0 lead. Amie Thomas added three singles and two RBIs and Chelsea Sherman had two singles and two RBIs.
Lauren Snow added a single, a double, and an RBI for the Ponies, while Mandi Murray added two singles and an RBI.
