Eight teams stayed alive in the race for the State Little League Championship Monday while eight more teams were eliminated.
In District 3 action, the Bangor East All-Stars eliminated Bangor West 2-0. Bangor East will play at Coastal of Blue Hill, a 4-2 winner over Millinocket, Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
Also in District 3 northern division, Houlton eliminated Katahdin with a 10-6 victory. Houlton will host Border at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. In the southern division, Calais eliminated Eastport 19-3 and will advance to play Machias on Wednesday.
In District 3 Little League softball action, Machias defeated Bangor West 22-13 in the first game of a best-of-three-games, second round playoff series. The two teams play again at Bangor Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

At Blue Hill, Gabe Boys’ fielder’s choice, a throwing error, and a balk keyed the host Coastal All-Stars’ 3-run rally in the fifth and gave them the win.
For 2-1 Coastal, Seth Cole hit a solo home run in the fourth. Nick Wiberg and Josh Weed each singled for the only other hits. Dave Ferris scattered 7 hits for the win.
Aaron Landry was the tough-luck loser for 1-2 Millinocket despite pitching a 3-hitter, striking out 10, and walking only 2. Jared Merry and Jeremy Munoz each singled twice. Steve Osborne doubled in a run.

Bangor East 2, Bangor West 0
At Taylor Field in Bangor, Josh Pressley fired a three-hit shutout, striking out 12 and walking only one to carry Bangor East (2-1) further into the tournament.
Adam Carlisle’s fielder’s choice scored pinch-runner Tom Carey and Aaron Soucie socked an RBI double to account for Bangor East’s offensive production. Ryan Mick had a key single, as did Chris Gaspar.
For Bangor West, which was eliminated with a 2-2 record, Travis Penny, T.J. True and Dow Martin all singled.

Houlton 10, Katahdin 6
At Houlton, James Wells led the way for Houlton with a 3-run homer and a double as the Houlton All-Stars eliminated Katahdin.
For 2-1 Houlton, Jim Wilmot singled twice and doubled. Jon Pottle and Brian Ross each hit a double and a single. Ross notche the complete-game win.
For 0-2 Katahdin, Chris Lawlor and Willie Sleeper each hit a double and single.

Calais 19, Eastport 3
At Eastport, Ben McManus sparked a 14-hit plate attack with three singles and two doubles and pitcher Kelly Dow fired a three-hitter, powering Calais to the win.
Shawn Lynch added three singles for Calais, which improved to 1-1, while J.R. Duvall added two singles.
For Eastport, eliminated at 0-2, Gabe Purdy had two singles. James Seeley singled.

Machias 22, Bangor West 13
At Machias, Kristen Look hit 4 singles to help pace the Machias All-Stars past Bangor West 22-13 in the first game of a second round District 3 softball playoff series.
The two teams will play again Wednesday at Bangor at 5:30 p.m.
For 1-0 Machias, Chrissy Thibodeau doubled twice. Mary McDonald and Melissa Smith each hit 2 singles. Sheri Pritchard went the distance to get the win.
For 2-2 Bangor West, Amanda Stevens doubled twice and singled. Melanie Deyone hit 3 singles.
