UM students take part in energy challenge

ORONO – University of Maine engineering students Angelique Dinsmore of Caribou, Shawn Kelley of Clifton, Adam Killip of Orrington and Son Nguyen of Bangor were members of the UMaine team participating in this year’s National Energy Challenge held April 6.

Their project involved using the UMaine Pulp and Paper Process Development Center to produce their own waterproof paper. The competition required the students to sail their boat around a prescribed course on Lake Lanier near Atlanta.

During the challenge, the students gave a presentation and provided technical details on their materials and construction process. UMaine took third place.
