ORONO – John Alcorn celebrated his 22nd birthday by pitching a five-hitter, leading Old Town-Orono to an 8-5 Eastern Maine Amateur Baseball League victory over Hilltop at Mahaney Diamond here Thursday.

Alcorn, who took a one-hitter into the seventh, struck out 11 and walked six. Akira Yamauchi rapped a double and a single (1 RBI) and Rich Rygalski singled twice for the 9-6 Double O’s.

For the 1-14 Hilltoppers, Troy Varney had an RBI triple and a single, while J.D. Newell contributed a two-run triple behind loser Larry Davis.
