BANGOR – St. Joseph Healthcare is commemorating its 55th anniversary during Hospital Week, May 13-17. Events focus on appreciation for the hospital’s dedicated employees and staff, both currently and those who had been with St. Joseph Healthcare during some part of its 55-year history. The theme uses the concept of a tree to represent the organizations’ vitality and growth.

Since May 13, a tree of appreciation has been on display. The Mission Advisory Committee solicited from employees descriptive adjectives and phrases about all hospital departments. These words of appreciation are hung on the “Tree of Vitality” in the cafeteria during the weeklong celebration.

In addition, employees showed their appreciation for one another Tuesday during “Give a Kiss” day. Employees received a bag of Hershey kisses to distribute to those deserving of extra appreciation.

In honor of all St. Joseph Healthcare employees, Sr. Mary Norberta, CEO and president, and the administration planted a tree during a ceremony outside the hospital lobby on Wednesday.

Thursday brings the annual Hospital Week tradition of the “Teddy Bear Clinic.”

Local kindergarten children will bring in their teddy bears for “check-ups” and receive “treatment” by doctors and nurses from 9 to 10:30 a.m. The clinic is designed to give children a chance to meet doctors, nurses and other health-care providers in a relaxed, non-threatening environment.

Hospital Week festivities wrap up with a complimentary picnic for all employees on Friday.
