Thomaston boat builder to describe his family’s round-the-world cruise

TENANTS HARBOR — Cabot Lyman, a Thomaston boat builder, will tell about his family’s three-year, round-the-world trip in a 49-foot cutter at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, at Tenants Harbor’s Jackson Memorial Library.

Aided by a two-projector slide system, he will concentrate on the family aspects of the 30,000-mile trip with his wife, Heidi, and their sons, Zach, who was 13 when the voyage started in September 1987, and twins Alex and Drew, three years younger.

Lyman, who owns and operates the Lyman-Morse boat yard in Thomaston, will tell how his sons learned seamanship and, with their mother as teacher, continued their education during their 999 days away from home. He also will describe how the family managed their life within the confines of the ship, the Chewink, and their adventures during frequent stopovers.

Admission is free and donations to help fund library activities will be welcome. The library is on Route 131 in the center of Tenants Harbor.
