Lasko powers MA Lynx past Minutemen 6-2

MILLINOCKET – Tom Lasko hit two singles and a double for two RBIs to power the Mattanawcook Academy Lynx to a 6-2 schoolboy baseball victory over the Stearns Minutemen Monday.

Steven Whitney added a two-run double to help lead Mattanawcook to the win.

Andy McLellan sent home a run on two singles while Nathan Cousineau chipped in with an RBI double.

Matt Barnett hit a double for two RBIs while Craig Cullen had a double and a single. Matt Wark contributed with two singles for Stearns.

At Hermon, Rob Crocker knocked in four runs on three singles to power the Ponies past the Hawks.

Foxcroft’s Josh Withee fanned 10 and scattered eight hits in the win. Jason Weymouth hit two singles and added an RBI, and Chris Chambers hit a two-run single.

Matt Watson paced Hermon with two singles and an RBI. Jesse Murphy hit a pair of singles and Brett Tarr singled and drove in a run.

At Newport, Josh Young had two RBIs on a single and a double while Andy Treadwell sent home two on two doubles to lead the Rams to victory.

Kevin Proctor added three singles and an RBI while Brian Worster chipped in with two singles for the Rams.

Justin Veazie led Nokomis with an RBI single while Alex Sawyer added a double.

Washburn sweeps Highview Chr.

At Washburn, Jason Thompson and Dan Buckley combined on a one-hitter, with five strikeouts apiece in the five-inning game, as the Beavers won the second game of a doubleheader 15-4. Washburn topped Highview Christian 6-4 in the first game.

In the first game, Buckley doubled and hit a solo homer. Isaac Carney fanned 14 and scattered seven hits in the win. John Andrews led the Knights of Charleston with a two-run single in the first. He also pitched a five-hitter with nine strikeouts. David Day doubled and added two singles, and Nick Waite singled twice.

In the second game, Buckley hit his second homer of the day, tripled, singled and finished with six RBIs. Trevor Thibodeau and Thompson each hit an RBI single. Day singled for Highview Christian and Andrews had an RBI. Three Knights pitchers combined for nine strikeouts.

At Corinth, James Gray’s three-run double in the second inning gave the Red Devils a 6-1 lead and they held on for the win.

Gray added a single to his totals and Matt Libby had two singles and drove in two runs for Central.

Bryan White had a triple, two doubles and two RBIs and John Luellen doubled, singled and drove in a run for Piscataquis of Guilford.

At East Millinocket, Adam Dempsey’s RBI groundout in the bottom of the eighth plated Chad McLaughlin, lifting the Wolverines to the win.

Schenck’s Drew Fayle forced extra innings with a two-out RBI single in the seventh. Jeff Osborne doubled, singled and added two RBIs. Adam Dempsey singled and drove in two runs.

Travis Robinson, Chris McNally and Chris Willigar each singled twice for the Cougars of Sherman Station.

At Blue Hill, Hans Reuter had two RBIs on two singles and a double while Baren Yurchick sent home two on a single and a double to help carry George Stevens Academy past the Raiders.

Mark Clapp had two RBIs on two singles for the Eagles while Ryan Hutchins singled twice and drove in a run.

Nick Reynolds nailed a three-run homer for Washington Academy while Ryan Naker added an RBI and two singles.

At Deer Isle, Luke Smith’s three-run homer with two outs in the top of the seventh inning capped a seven-run rally that erased a 13-8 deficit.

Ben Sobey had three singles and an RBI for Bangor Christian and Chase Ossinger doubled and had an RBI single in the seventh.

D.J. McCleary and Matt Turgeon added two singles apiece.

Josh Bolton had a two-run homer and a two-run single for the Mariners, Chris Gray had a solo homer and a single and Jon Klemenz had a two-run homer. Nick Ciomei had two singles and Bennett Gray contributed a two-run single.

At Brewer, freshman righthander Kevin McAvoy hurled 5? innings of one-hit, three-run baseball before lefty Chad Gomm got the final four outs, all by strikeouts, as Brewer won its fourth straight.

Gomm allowed a pair of singles while finishing off the combined three-hitter.

Tony Doucette’s RBI single, Joel Barrett’s RBI fielder’s choice and Shawn Sutherland’s bases-loaded walk staked Brewer to a 3-0 lead in the third inning and the Witches added four more in the fourth.

Zach Bouzan-Kaloustian paced Brewer’s 11-hit attack with a double and two singles. Barrett drove in three runs with a two-run double and his fielder’s choice, Doucette doubled and singled and Chris Cote singled twice as did Sutherland.

Eric Libbey had a two-run single for Hampden.

At Corinth, Nicole Labbe’s RBI single keyed a three-run fifth inning as the Red Devils took control of their game with the Pirates.

Jody Bell, Jody Harvey, Jess Kaelin and Brea Ward all singled and drove in a run for Central.

Ivy Galuski had a pair of singles and Caterina Riitano struck out 13 batters for Piscataquis of Guilford.

At Searsport, TaraLee Webster fired a one-hitter and also starred at the plate as the Viking edged the Patriots.

Webster struck nine and walked one and singled in a run and later came around to score on a Patriots error in the Vikings’ three-run third inning. Webster singled twice.

Danielle Graves limited the Vikings to just four hits while striking out 10 and walking three. Michell Mullherin had Penquis Valley of Milo’s only hit.

At Newport, Courtney Smith roped a two-run triple to lead the Rams to victory.

Danielle Clark rocked an RBI triple to lead the Warriors. Amy Paradis rapped a triple, Kaycea Grignon jolted an RBI double, and Tina Turner doubled and singled.

At Hermon, Darcy McCormick smacked two doubles and drove in two runs to propel the Ponies.

Mandi Murray singled twice for Foxcroft.

Erin Lucey led Hermon with a triple, two singles and two RBIs. Kristen Hart singled twice and added a double. Morgan Burr doubled, singled and knocked in a run.

At Blue Hill, Nikki Keniston’s two-run single helped the Eagles hold off Washington Academy.

Sarah Clapp hit two singles and Jess McVay tripled in the fourth inning for George Stevens. Laurie Allen and Jesse Conley combined on a three-hitter.

Ashley Day smacked a solo homer in the fifth for the Raiders of East Machias. Krystal Stauffer doubled and singled.

Loni Ray sparked the Roadrunners of Salem with a triple, double and an RBI. Launi Johnson had two singles.

Danielle Miller had a two-run double for Bangor Christian while Kara Hartman hit two singles.

At Millinocket, Jordan Legassey blasted a two-run homer to go with a single as Stearns rolled over the rival Lynx of Lincoln.

Kristina MacKenzie hurled a three-hitter in the circle and rapped a double and a single at the plate for the Minutemen. Katie Jones provided a double and a single. Jessica Jandreau singled twice and scored three runs, and Melissa Rideout had two singles.

Erica Knights, Chelsea Nicastro and Cassie Brown had a single each for Mattanawcook.

At Brewer, Amy Freeman’s two-run single helped power the Witches to their 11th win.

Sherri Capponi singled twice and Carolyn McAvoy added an RBI single for Brewer. The Witches took advantage of seven walks.

Danielle Billings hit an RBI single for the Broncos and Evon Hudspeth singled twice.

At Rockland, junior righthander Morgan Crandall threw her second no-hitter in 12 days, striking out 10 and walking two, and Melissa Brown broke a scoreless tie with a run-scoring fielder’s choice in the three-run fifth-inning rally.

It was Crandall’s fourth career no-hitter. She no-hit Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield 7-1 on May 8.

Crandall singled and scored the only run she was to need on Brown’s grounder and an ensuing overthrow, which allowed a second run to score. Kate Ross capped the rally with an RBI double.

Sam Ellis and Sara Flagg had two singles each for Belfast.
