The search for a gumball machine stolen from Days Inn in Bangor was short-lived when it was found a few miles away – just as the report that it was missing was being filed, police said Thursday.
The machine had been taken from its 250 Odlin Road location sometime between Tuesday and noon Wednesday, when it was reported missing, Bangor police Officer Dennis Lally said.
The machine was found just before noon Wednesday at 60 Cedar St., Officer Larry Morrill said. The machine was valued at $690 and had not been damaged when it was found.
A Stetson man faces charges after speeding past another car on Finson Road near the Oak Grove Cemetery in Bangor on Wednesday night, officials said.
Bangor police stopped Jason Curry, 29, after they spotted him passing another car at 62 mph in a 25-mph zone, Officer James Hassard said. After Curry failed field sobriety tests, a mechanical test found Curry’s blood-alcohol level to be 0.12 percent. The legal limit for an adult is 0.08 percent.
Curry was taken to the Penobscot County Jail and charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants and criminal speeding, Hassard said. He also was charged with driving without a valid driver’s license because of a previous OUI conviction.
