Authorities nab Canadian escapee

A Canadian was caught Wednesday afternoon in East Dover after having been on the loose for more than two hours when he escaped from a fenced-in recreation area at the Piscataquis County Jail in Dover-Foxcroft.

Michael Allan Bigger, who was awaiting sentencing on charges of re-entering the United States after deportation, was charged with escape when he was found at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to a statement released by acting Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal Jeffrey M. Thayer.

Bigger was believed to have escaped around 2 p.m. by going under the fence, and was found by members of the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department, the Maine State Police and local authorities, with the help of tracking dogs, Thayer wrote. The U.S. Marshals Service and local authorities coordinated the search.
