A Brewer man was arrested and released Monday after police pulled him over for traveling 111 mph in a 55 mph zone in Bangor, officials said.

Jared Stymiest, 18, was pulled over on Interstate 95 shortly before midnight in his 1994 Saturn after a member of the Maine State Police caught him on radar, Trooper Seth Edwards said. Stymiest was charged with criminal speeding.

A Connecticut man was arrested and charged with criminal speeding and possession of drug paraphernalia Monday evening, police said.

Maine State Police pulled over Erik Lindberg, 22, of Sterling, Conn., after finding him traveling 102 mph in a 65-mph zone in his 1991 Chevy Cavalier on Interstate 95 in Old Town, Trooper Seth Edwards said. A search of Lindberg found a marijuana pipe in his pocket. He was arrested and later released.

A Brewer man and a Bangor woman were each arrested during a traffic stop in Milford Monday evening, officials said.

Maine State Police Trooper Seth Edwards had pulled over a 1984 Dodge pickup when he noticed that the vehicle had no inspection sticker, Edwards said. A check on the driver, Leach Wallace, 45, found that his license was suspended and he was charged with operating a vehicle after the suspension of his license.

The passenger, Betty Kepner, 41, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia when a search found a marijuana pipe in her possession, Edwards said. The pair were arrested and released on personal recognizance bail.

A routine traffic stop resulted in numerous charges when the passenger of the vehicle tried to hide drugs and drug-related items from Brewer police Saturday just before midnight, officials said.

Brewer police had pulled a vehicle over for a loud exhaust, but found that the driver, 38-year-old Kenneth Black of Bangor, apparently was driving drunk with a suspended license, Brewer police Cpl. Keith Emery said. A breathalyzer test found Black’s blood alcohol level to be 0.19 percent, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent.

After having Black and the owner of the vehicle, Richard Munson Jr., 29, of Brewer exit the vehicle, officers continued to search it for illegal objects, Emery said. The officers were not going to search Munson but saw him drop something on the ground and move to a second location where he dropped something else.

Police found the first object was a marijuana pipe and the second object was a small bag of marijuana, Emery said. Police then searched Munson and found a small glass bottle containing a clear liquid that will be tested to determine its nature.

Munson claimed he did not know what was in the bottle or how it got into his pocket, Emery said. Munson was charged with possession of a usable amount of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and falsifying physical evidence.

A Bangor woman was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants after police found she was driving with a blood alcohol level almost four times the legal limit Friday night.

Brewer police Sgt. Chris Martin had been following a car that cut him off on Wilson Street in Brewer when the car drove into Bangor, Bangor police Officer Chris Desmond said. Martin notified Bangor police of the car he was following and, after the woman cut off a second car near John Bapst Memorial High School, Bangor police arrived after the woman had parked the car behind 208 French St.

Desmond found Mary Corliss, 61, in the car with a near-empty half-gallon bottle of vodka, Desmond said. Corliss admitted she had been driving and agreed to a field sobriety test.

Corliss had difficulty standing upright and “fearing for her safety, no more balance tests were offered,” Desmond said. Corliss wrote down nine letters when asked to write the alphabet and was taken to Penobscot County Jail in Bangor where a breathalyzer test revealed her blood alcohol level to be 0.30 percent. The legal limit for adults in Maine is 0.08 percent.

A Holden woman was charged with possession of a usable amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after police pulled her over for a broken headlight early Saturday morning, officials said.

Kimberly Sparks, 23, told police she had thrown out a joint when she saw a Brewer police cruiser turn to pull her over, Brewer police Cpl. Keith Emery said. She admitted that she had a pipe in the car and was reaching into a bag to retrieve it when Emery noticed a small plastic bag of marijuana in the bag she was retrieving the pipe from.

Another small amount of marijuana also was found in a cellophane wrapper during the traffic stop on Wilson Street, Emery said. A passenger in the vehicle was not charged.
