Brewer Convalescent
Our spring craft fair and bake sale held April 7 brought in more than $375 toward the Resident Council Fund. We acknowledge the crafters, volunteers and folks who donated time, items and food for the fair. The support was appreciated.
Members of the Brewer Garden and Bird Club made their monthly visit and provided us with fresh flowers for spring bouquets.
Our Easter egg hunt was successful. Residents were delighted by the participation of the children. Winners of the hunt were Myra Shannon, 2, and Nicole Wooster, 5, children of staff members.
Tom McKenny of Eddington brought three small bunnies and one Flemish giant to visit residents, children and staff members. The Easter bunny had competition when it came to taking pictures.
The dietary staff went all out Easter Sunday providing us with a ham dinner. Residents, staff and family members really enjoyed the festivities. Ron Andrews and her staff were responsible.
Nine residents celebrated birthdays in April. The well-known local pianist, Norm Lambert, entertained at this month’s birthday celebration.

Good Times Club
The Good Times Club met April 18 with 39 present to celebrate the birthdays of 14 members. Two cakes made by Doris Page and Judy Bouitilier were part of a potluck meal at noon.
After a routine meeting, exercises were led by Helen Marsh. Ruth Jenness, Maxine Webb and Amy Broad entertained with comical readings. Beano and cards were played in the afternoon.
Dr. Thomas Richard will be the guest speaker at the next meeting, Wednesday, May 2. He will speak on stress, its causes and how to deal with it. The last session of line dancing will be held after the May 2 meeting.

Penobscot Valley Adult Day Service
The Penobscot Valley Adult Day Care was treated to the music of the Hardly Able Band last week. While the band played music from memory lane, the staff and clients danced to these golden oldies.

Phillips-Strickland
Easter Day was celebrated by visiting with families and friends. Several residents were invited out to dinner by their families and friends, while others invited families and friends to join them at Phillips-Strickland for a traditional ham dinner.
After dinner, residents attended the Easter worship service provided by Judy Burdick. Later, the Salvation Army Songsters provided an afternoon of music and spiritual readings.
A group of residents enjoyed having dinner April 18 at the Town Cafe in Hampden. Everyone ordered his or her favorite dish from the menu. The graham cracker cream pie was the favorite dessert ordered. The outing was suggested by the House Committee at its March meeting.
A few of the coming events include: “A Spring Sing” with Norm Lambert and Harley Soule; “Sweden,” a book review by Ruth Greenquist; and a trip to the Bangor Symphony.
Westgate Manor
Ola Bolan, president of the Resident Council, presented checks of $250 each to nursing students Kimberly Bowley and Laurie Smith, to help further their education. Westgate Manor residents have worked through the past year to raise money through raffles, fairs and food sales.
Our newsletter, “Westgate Spring,” is fresh off the presses and has been sent to families and friends of Westgate Manor.
