CARIBOU — Roland D. Martin of Caribou, Aroostook County administrator, has been named to the Selective Service Board to represent the county on Maine Local Board 1.
Martin was appointed by Robert W. Gambino, director of the Selective Service in Washington, D.C., after being nominated last spring by Gov. John R. McKernan Jr. Martin is a former state senator and representative.
The Selective Service System is an independent agency within the executive branch of the federal government. Its mission is to provide personnel for the Department of Defense and to provide for a program of alternate service for conscientious objectors.
