Disposal district directors to meet

MACHIAS — The directors of the Washington County Refuse Disposal District will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 1992 at the Washington County Courthouse.

Currently, the six founding towns are the district’s only members and they are scattered countywide in Baileyville, Cherryfield, Cutler, Eastport, Princeton and Whiting. Other towns have expressed interest in joining. Policies for joining, including an assumption of debt, will be on the WCRDD agenda for Jan. 9.

The Land Use Regulation Commission has given the Downeast Landfill at Marion Township another reprieve to operate until May. James Robinson still wants to take over management of the landfill. The facility at Marion will be discussed by the WCRDD.

Nina Silverstrone’s report activities for countywide recycling will be discussed by the directors.

For additional information, call Reinald Nielsen, the district’s chairman at 255-8238 or Linda Throckmorton, secretary at 259-3646.
