SHIRLEY – A head-on collision that took the life of an elderly Monson woman Tuesday also seriously injured the woman’s granddaughter, who happened to be a passenger in the other vehicle.
Stella Brown, 87, was southbound on Route 15 at about 9:25 a.m. when her car rounded a curve and weaved across the centerline into the path of a northbound vehicle driven by Annabelle Bozin, 19, of Monson, according to investigator Allen Emerson of the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department.
Brown was pronounced dead at the accident scene.
Her granddaughter Jade Brown, 19, was a passenger in Bozin’s vehicle. She was taken by ambulance to Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft and transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Emerson said the teen-ager was seriously injured with leg and pelvic injuries. An EMMC spokesman said Jade Brown was still being evaluated in the late afternoon.
Bozin was taken by ambulance to the Charles A. Dean Memorial Hospital in Greenville and later transferred to Mayo Regional Hospital, where she was admitted, according to Tom Lizotte, hospital spokesman. Emerson said Bozin suffered only cuts and bruises.
Stella Brown’s body was taken to McCory Funeral Home in Greenville. A dog in her vehicle was injured and was taken to a local veterinarian.
Emerson said that both Brown’s 1992 Subaru Legacy and Bozin’s 1995 Ford Taurus were demolished. All three women were wearing their seat belts, he said.
