Heart disease is theme of meeting

NEWPORT — “Cardiovascular Disease and Causes” was the topic at the April 26 meeting of the Sebasticook Grange of Newport. The program was planned by Blanche Hayes, chairman of the Committee on Women’s Activities, and presented by Martha Macomber of the Sebasticook Valley Hospital staff.

Macomber’s presentation included a demonstration of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, ways of clearing airway obstructions, ways of keeping the heart healthy and the distribution of material relative to heart care.

Other portions of the evening program included a song and dance by Ernest and Thelma Tweedie of South Sangerville Grange, a coin march won by Arthur Derby, and remarks by guest Dorothy Hutchins and members of the visiting CWA Committee.

The Grange voted to donate the use of the hall for a preschool clinic to be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 24. Other coming events include a meeting of East Somerset Pomona at 6:30 p.m. May 2, in Ripley; a school of instruction meeting of the South Sangerville Grange at 6:30 p.m. May 28 with Chief Deputy P. Arthur Herbert officiating and a CWA Night at Eastville Grange at their next meeting.

Sebasticook’s Exchange Program with Valley Grange as guests will be held at 6:30 p.m. May 10, beginning with a potluck supper.
