BANGOR DAILY NEWS (BANGOR, MAINE

Propaganda or truth?

What do Pinocchio’s nose and a photo finish have in common? I believe if the Associated Press, U.S. Parks Police, and network television news had a nose it might be longer than the Washington Monument.

On Saturday, April 28, the Rally for Life was held on the Mall by the Washington Monument. Several friends of mine from Ellsworth and Bangor attended this event. I followed AP reports via computer all weekend to find out how many people actually attended.

AP reported only “thousands” and late Saturday evening reported “tens of thousands of people.” Yet I found that The Washington Post reported 200,000 attended. Then I heard that national television reported a different number while UPI reported 500,000!

Why is there such a vast contradiction? Haven’t we had since the 1960s to perfect the science of counting mass gatherings? Why, then, with the technology of the 1990s, can we not at least arrive at a general consensus? Or does the issue go deeper than just poor math skills? Is someone pulling someone else’s puppet strings…?

(According to the host of the rally) an estimated 700,000 people were in attendance including the areas outside of the immediate 22-acre parcel around the monument, therefore, including down to the Lincoln Memorial and in back of the Washington Monument. Aerial photographs were taken and these pictures will soon be available to the media. The photo finish will tell the truth…

If AP, the U.S. Parks Police, and other major media misinformed the public about this rally, what other news events are being altered and the facts twisted? Think about it … and we talk about Russia and their propaganda media. Kerry Lord East Orland
