2 inmates escape from Correctional Center

WINDHAM — Law enforcement authorities were searching for two inmates who escaped through a bathroom window at the Maine Correctional Center Wednesday night, officials said.

Rick Allen Liotonne, 29, of New Sweden and Joseph F. Lux, 20, of Winslow forced open a window in a first-floor bathroom in one of the new dormitories, Maine Corrections Commissioner Donald Allen said.

“They went over the razor wire” on top of the fence that surrounds the dormitory, Allen said. “We know that one or both of them is cut because they left some blood behind.”

Liotonne was sentenced last year on an escape conviction, while Lux was serving three years for burglary in Bridgton.

The men escaped between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., a time right after dinner when there is considerable activity as prisoners walk from their rooms to the showers and the recreation areas, Allen said.
