LEWISTON – The Class B West and Class A South All-Stars rang up wins in Maine Schoolboy All-Star Hockey benefit games at Lewiston’s Central Maine Civic Center here Saturday.
The Western B Stars beat the Eastern Stars 5-2 and the Southern A team upended the Northern A team 6-2.
In the B game, the Western Stars scored the game’s first five goals en route to the victory.
Cheverus of Portland’s Jamie Hazard, Kennebunk’s Chris Healy and York’s Geoff Fountain scored second-period goals before York’s Adam Vercauteren and Cheverus’ Mike Michaud added third-period goals.
Winslow’s Shane Grenier and Presque Isle’s Jamie Desrosiers scored third-period goals for the East.
Yarmouth’s George Sweetland, Thornton Academy of Saco’s Jeff Marston and Cheverus’ Dan Nadeau combined for 27 saves. Winslow’s Jared Mills and Old Town’s Aaron Humphrey had 11 saves apiece.
In the Class A game, Southern goalies Chris Tracy of St. Dom’s, Rob Hart of Auburn’s Edward Little High School and Kevin Bellanger of Biddeford teamed up for 47 saves and Brian Boucher of St. Dom’s got the game-winner in the second period.
The South built a pair of one-goal leads on goals by Biddeford’s Casey Small and EL’s Greg Vincent only to have the North’s Roger Landry (Lewiston) and Jeff Libby (Waterville) equalize.
Boucher got the game-winner and the South received third-period goals from St. Dom’s John Cloutier (2) and Boucher.
Cony of Augusta’s Darby Erickson and Bangor’s Micah Robbins teamed up for 22 saves for the North.
