BLUE HILL — The Maine Aspirations Teen Theater performed Friday, April 27, at George Stevens Academy. The team of actors presented workshops that blended performance and discussion of teen-related topics. According to co-director Matt Ames, “There are no low aspirations, and reaching goals is never easy. We can’t make a person change, but we can create the environment where they can change.”

This was the second visit for the Teen Theater. Their first visit to the academy in January 1990 was at a business breakfast for local community leaders and academy educators. The fast-paced, energetic, and versatile presentation resulted in the return invitation.

The performance began with an active upbeat medley of some obstacles facing teen-agers today, including topics dealing with self-esteem, drugs, alcohol, pregnancy and discipline, and targeted friends, families, parents, employers, teachers and peers. In the wrap-up, Ames said, “You have the power to overcome obstacles and the responsibility to be a friend.”
