BEP approves remedies for state environmental violations

AUGUSTA — The Board of Environmental Protection approved the following consent agreements in February to remedy violations of environmental regulations:

City of Brewer and Eastern Fine Paper, violations of waste-water discharge license and unlicensed overflows from a waste-water treatment system into the Penobscot River. Removal of combined sewer overflows, reconstruction of waste-water treatment system, and $75,000 in penalties.

Forster Manufacturing Co. Inc., Wilton, disposing of septage at an unlicensed site within 100 feet of a tributary of the West Branch of the Carrabassett River. Clean and close the site and pay $1,000.

Jordan Lumber Co. Inc., Kingfield, violating terms of permit to expand a gravel pit in Kingfield by selling lots in a site that were commercially developed. Submit after-the-fact application and comply with terms of permit, if approved, mitigate site, if denied, and pay $5,300.

John Marchessault, West Minot, constructing a bridge over, placing fill adjacent to, and discharging soil to an unnamed stream in West Minot. Stabilize soils, file permit by rule notification and pay $500.

Charles Miller, North Whitefield, disposal of septage at an unlicensed site on Cooper Road, North Whitefield. Clean and close the site and pay $500.

Ernest and Cynthia Roy, Caribou, placing fill in and adjacent to Farnham Brook without a permit. Stabilize soils and pay $800.

Carl Soderberg and Lisa Irving-Soderberg, Caribou, bulldozing soil adjacent to a tributary of Caribou Stream without a permit. Stabilize soils and pay $500.

Joe Violette and Son, Littleton, disturbing soil adjacent to Conroy Lake, Monticello, without a permit. Pay $750.
