LEBANON – Officials in this York County town will be getting an extended vacation this summer, thanks to the town’s voters.

On June 11, Lebanon voters rejected an article appropriating money to pay the town’s tax collector, treasurer, clerk, deputy clerk and other elected and appointed officials. Voters also rejected paying for operations of the volunteer rescue squad.

Because of the referendum’s outcome, the town office doors will close July 1. Residents who have business to transact should do it before then.

Town Clerk Laura Bragg said the selectmen are planning a new referendum to pay local officials so public business can resume. But the vote is unlikely to take place before early August because it will take that long to prepare for an election in the town of 5,000 residents.

Deputy Clerk Christine Libby looked on the bright side of the summer shutdown, saying it’s a good month to have off.
