Governor proclaims Friday Kneisel Hall Day

BLUE HILL – In honor of Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival’s centennial season, Maine Gov. Angus King has proclaimed the first day of the Kneisel 2002 Festival season, Friday, Kneisel Hall Day in the state of Maine.

“Whereas, Franz Kneisel founded Kneisel Hall Chamber Festival in 1902, which is the oldest and most distinguished chamber music festival in the state …

“Whereas, Kneisel Hall’s mission is to represent the highest ideals of ensemble performance; now, therefore, be it proclaimed that: June 28, 2002, be proclaimed, Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival Day.”

Kneisel Hall in Blue Hill has been in existence since 1902, when Franz Kneisel, founder of the first professional string quartet in the United States, began bringing students to Maine for summer study. Kneisel Hall alumni have taken their places in chamber ensembles and faculties worldwide.
