ROCKPORT – This year’s winner of the Nathan Corning Jazz Prize at Bay Chamber Concerts Inc., Rockport, is the jazz quartet Post No Bills. Membership includes Sam Caldwell, alto saxophone, of Yarmouth; Ryan Baird, guitar, of Portland; Adam Chilenski, bass, of Camden; and R.J. Miller, drums, of Brunswick. Caldwell and Miller just graduated from high school and will be attending Berklee College of Music next year. Baird will be a junior at the University of Southern Maine, and Chilenski is a recent graduate of the University of Maine at Augusta.
The Nathan E. Corning Jazz Prize was established in 1999 by the late Nathan Corning of Rockport to encourage and honor young players of jazz in Maine. It is open by application and audition each spring to instrumental or vocal performers, solo or ensemble, aged 15-23. Past recipients of the award are the Ryan Blotnik Trio, Ben Bigney and pianist Daniel Strange.
Post No Bills will perform, along with six classical prize winners, as part of the annual Bay Chamber Prize-Winners Concert at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, at the Rockport Opera House.
