Kuhn hit sparks Eagles

ELLSWORTH – Eric Kuhn rapped a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning here Wednesday to spark the Ellsworth Eagles to a 2-1 Class B schoolboy baseball victory over Mount Desert Island.

Paul Farley went the distance, allowing only two hits while striking out 13 to pick up the win for the 2-0 Eagles.

Jared Polchies was the tough-luck loser for the 0-2 Trojans.

Hermon 5, Bucksport 2

At Hermon, Roy Peary tossed a complete-game two-hitter as Hermon downed Bucksport.

Hermon exploded for all five of their runs in the fifth inning. Matt Alaimo led the 1-0 Hawks with a single and a run batted in.

Peter Kenny took the loss for the 0-1 Golden Bucks.

Rockland 14, Mount View 2

At Rockland, Rockland scored 10 runs in the fourth inning en route to victory over Mount View of Thorndike in the season opener for both teams.

Todd Carballo hit a two-run homer and Shane LeBlanc tripled for the Tigers. Three Rockland pitchers combined to allow just one Mount View hit. Jarrett Widdecombe was the winning pitcher.

Bill Bolio tripled in the fifth for the only Mustang hit behind loser Jason Littlefield.

At Old Town, Steve Pooler and Jason Dorr shut out the Warriors of Newport on four hits while their mates pounded out 12 hits.

Pooler threw five innings and allowed only three hits while striking out five and walking two. Dorr allowed a hit in two innings, striking out three and not walking a hitter.

Aaron King drove home three runs with three singles for the 2-0 Indians and Nick Chaisson knocked in three with a double and sacrifice fly. Chris Taylor had three singles, Shane McConnell a double and Brian Wickett three RBI on one hit.

For the 0-2 Warriors, Brad Ronco, Jake Hughes, Craig Hartsgrove, and Mark Gallison had singles.

For the 2-0 Windjammers, Al Tolman had a double and a pair of singles for two RBI, while Eric Moody doubled twice.

For 1-1 Belfast, Bob Hughes, Kurty Payson, and Matt Varney singled behind loser Jason Emery.

Coombs lifts Lee past MA

LINCOLN – Ron Coombs stole home in the sixth inning to score what proved to be the winning run, leading Lee Academy to a season-opening 6-5 schoolboy baseball victory over host Mattanawcook Academy here Wednesday.

Coombs went 2-for-3 with a triple and single, and notched the win with seven strikeouts. Garrett Ham singled twice and had two RBIs. Steve Coombs came on with two outs and runners on second and third, but stranded the runners with a fly-ball out.

Peter Libby hit an RBI single to pace the 0-1 Lynx. Loser Jason Clifford and Jason House each singled for the only other hits.
