Commissions

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Cadet William Shakespeare, son of retired Maj. William and Rachel Shakespeare of Hampden, graduated June 1 from the U.S. Military Academy. He received a degree in systems engineering and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

He is a 1995 Hampden Academy graduate. He is airborne- and air assault-qualified, and has received the Expert Infantry Badge, Army Commendation Medal, two National Defense Service medals, three Army Achievement medals and Good Conduct Ribbon. Shakespeare will be assigned to the 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kan.

Basic training

NORFOLK, Va. – Marine Corps Pvt. Willy Baird III, son of Debbie and Willy Baird of Bangor, recently complete basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. He is a 2000 graduate of Bangor High School.

Advanced training

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Marine Lance Cpl. Derek Langway, son of David Langway of Winterport, graduated from the Communications Signals Collection and Processing Course at Naval Technical Training Center, Corry Station.

Langway received instruction on the gathering and analyzing of intelligence information as a prerequisite for entrance into one of more than five cryptologic technician branch specialized courses.

Langway is a 2001 graduate of Hermon High School.

On duty

NORFOLK, Va. – Sgt. Matthew Spencer, son of Barbara McIver and Melvin Spencer of Milford, reported for duty with Marine Air Support Squadron One, Marine Air Control Group 28, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, N.C. Spencer is a 1991 graduate of Penobscot Valley High School in Howland. He joined the Marine Corps in 1992.
