Witches’ 4-run seventh beats Broncs

Heather Taylor capped Brewer’s four-run rally in the seventh with an RBI single to lift the Witches to a 9-8 softball win over Hampden at the Brewer High field Tuesday.

Sara Burnett delivered a two-run single in the seventh and Amanda Sevigny added a run-producing single before Taylor’s winning hit.

Taylor paced 2-5 Brewer with three singles and Denise Hewews tripled and singled. Kim McPheters, Tammy McLaughlin, Sevigny and Burnett each added two singles.

Amy Crocker singled twice for Hampden, now 4-3.

At Dexter, Becky Vaughan scattered four hits and Cory Monday was 4-for-4 to help Maine Central Institute win its seventh game without a loss.

Monday homered on the game’s first pitch and added a triple and two singles to back Vaughan, who struck out 11 while walking only one. Vaughan aided her own cause with two singles and two RBI and Julie Barnes added two singles.

Vyana Reynolds doubled and singled twice for Dexter, now 2-5. Mandy King had three singles and Karen Hersey had two.

At Blue Hill, Jessica Fontaine pitched a one-hitter as the unbeaten Eagles of George Stevens Academy boosted their record to 6-0. Fontaine, a senior, struck out 10 and walked 11.

For the Eagles, Brandi Eaton had a triple and two singles, Wendy Marcinkus and Kelly Wilson had three singles each, and Katye Matson whacked a three-run homer.

For the 5-4 Trojans, Adriana Bobinchock had the lone hit, a line-drive single to left in the sixth inning.

At Camden-Rockport, Tia Madaffari drove in three runs with a double and single and Amy Beveridge and Samantha London combined on a one-hitter as the Windjammers improved to 4-2.

Megan Ratliff scored three runs for Camden-Rockport.

Mount Ararat of Topsham fell to 0-6.

At Bangor, Tammy Matula drove in four runs with a double and three singles and Heather Guerrette slapped three hits and pitched a six-hitter, sparking Bangor Christian to its third win against three losses.

Sara Rockwell homered, doubled, and singled for the Patriots to drive in three runs.

For Lubec, 0-5, Jessica Jones had three singles. Lubec 310 10 – 5 6 6 Bangor Christian 341 36 – 17 20 5

Central 14, John Bapst 13

At East Corinth, Cherie Greatorex knocked in pinch runner Mylissa Moors in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift host Central past the Crusaders of Bangor.

The Red Devils improved to 7-0 with the win, rallying from behind twice. In the pivotal seventh, Shannon Wood walked and Moors stole second. She advanced on a bunt single by Laura Hatch, setting up Greatorex’ game-winner.

Hatch had three hits and two RBIs for Central, while Courtney Dearborn added two hits and two RBIs. Sue Ann Allen went the distance to earn the win.

Maria Hannigan drove in three runs with three singles for the 1-4 Crusaders, while Meghan Smith belted a grand slam in the third inning. Tracy Rideout took the loss.
