Belfast, Schoodic split twinbill

EAST SULLIVAN – Mike Cowperthwaite’s ground-rule double in the bottom of the seventh inning knocked in the winning run as Schoodic pulled out a 3-2 victory over Belfast in the second game of their Sunday doubleheader in Bay League baseball action.

The win gave Schoodic a split as Belfast won the opener 7-1.

In the first game, Devin Potvin and Roland Littlefield posted back-to-back RBI singles to highlight a three-run first inning for Belfast.

Littlefield, Gerald Hews, and Peter Wardwell each had two singles for Belfast. Winning pitcher Rory O’Donnell struck out 12 and walked only two.

Royce Blackwood rapped an RBI double for Schoodic.

In the second game, Cowperthwaite also had a single and picked up the win as he tossed a three-hitter, striking out eight and walking one.

Hews ripped an RBI triple for Belfast. Pitcher Nate Hall had 12 strikeouts, but walked five.
