HERMON — The Hermon Recycling Committee has been reactivated, and committee members have come up with host of new ideas to get the community involved in recyling to reduce the amount of trash the town must pay to have hauled away.
The town is under a state obligation to recycle 30 percent of its waste stream by this year.
At their most recent meeting committee members drafted a survey to ask residents if they are recycling and to solicit ideas for recycling.
The group agreed to participate in Hermon Fun Day, July 11, with an informational booth and demonstrations of composting. The proposed survey also will be conducted during the activities.
The town office has updated its recycling information sheets, and copies are available at the town office.
Items being recycled at Hermon include: high-grade paper such as computer paper, white office paper (letterheads, copy paper) and colored office paper; newspaper; aluminum and tin-steel cans; and glass jars and bottles, which must be cleaned and separated by color.
The town is not accepting magazines, light bulbs, window glass, and metal objects.
The town’s recycling trailer is behind the municipal building and is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.
