LOVELL – Route 5 was reopened Tuesday after an accident in which an Auburn man was killed the previous night.
The state highway was closed for three hours Monday night after a car driven by 71-year-old Lawrence Marcotte drifted into the oncoming lane and crashed head-on into a tractor-trailer hauling wood chips.
Marcotte was dead at the scene, but the truck driver was not hurt, police said.
The accident happened on the same stretch of road where author Stephen King was struck by a van while walking along the shoulder in June 1999.
