Conservatory announces summer programs in Bangor

Northern Conservatory of Music and the performing arts, a non-profit organization in Bangor, has announced summer programs for a variety of ages:

Jeri Pitcher will teach an introduction to creative dramatics for children 5-9. The six-week course will be held 5-6 p.m. Thursdays for six weeks, beginning June 25. The cost of the course, registration included, is $40.

Pitcher will teach “What Do I Do When I Get a Script in My Hand?” for children 10-14. This workshop will be held 6-7 p.m. Thursdays for six weeks beginning June 25. Students will study “fun” play scenes and perform them at the end of the six weeks.

Andy Laidman will teach a two-hour brass clinic 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 29. The clinic is for anyone with two years of playing experience, and participants should bring an instrument. The cost of the clinic is $15.

Laidman also will teach a songwriting workshop 7-8 p.m. Mondays, July 6-Aug. 17. The course is for high school age through adults. Concepts will include inspiration vs. skill, chords and harmony, musical styles, and how to get material published. Students will compose one original song, to be performed at the end of the course by themselves or by someone else. The cost of the course is $60, registration fee included.

Brian Curry will run two popular-music combos this summer. One group will be for youths ages 10-15, and the other for ages 16 to adult. The ensembles will include bass, percussion, vocals, guitar and keyboard. Each group will meet for eight sessions beginning in July, with the time to be determined by the composition of the group. The cost is $110.

The Northern Conservatory Chorus will meet 6-8 p.m. Sundays beginning June 28, with Wendy Sweet as director. All adults are welcome to participate, and no experience is necessary. There is no charge for this program.

All programs will be held at the conservatory at 96 Harlow St., Bangor. For information or registration, call 947-8171.
