Vacation Bible schools scheduled around the state

Vacation Bible schools have been scheduled at several churches around Maine:

Three churches in the Bangor area are combining their talents and efforts for “Marketplace 30 A.D.,” to be held 9 a.m.-noon Monday through Friday, June 22-26, at First United Methodist Church on Essex Street, Bangor. Working with First UMC will be All Souls Congregational Church and First Baptist Church.

Children and adults will be dressed appropriately, and food and events will be realistic for the time period. The marketplace will include shops for carpentry, sandal making, musical instruments, brickmaking, construction and other crafts.

After kneading bread and listening to Jewish prayers and ceremonies, the children will be “apprenticed” in the marketplace. Time will be allotted for storytelling and learning Hebrew songs and Israeli dances.

The five-day event will conclude with a celebration festival 7-8:30 p.m. Friday evening at the church. The registration fee is $3 per child. For information, contact Rhonda Hess at 942-2289.
