Sleeper, Small lead Katahdin past Hampden Buck, Colbeth combine on no-hitter to spark Machias

BANGOR – Dakota Sleeper scattered three hits and racked up 10 strikeouts to lead Katahdin to a 4-1 victory over Hampden in a District 3 Little League All-Star tournament game for 9- and 10-year-olds Thursday at the Bangor East fields.

Jesse Small roped two singles for Katahdin.

Nate Clark took the loss despite allowing just two hits and striking out eight. Jacob Moore and Clark had a single each for Hampden and Josh McKechnie rapped an RBI single.

Lincoln 13, Brewer 3

At Bangor East, Lance Bernier fanned eight batters in four innings to earn the win for Lincoln in 9-10 action.

Ethan White knocked in three runs on a double and a single. Dillon Pete launched a double.

Evan Nadeau roped two singles to lead Brewer.

Machias 14, Sunrise 1

At Bucksport, Tom Buck and Colby Colbeth combined on a six-inning no-hitter, striking out eight and walking six, to lead Machias to the win.

Nick Wood doubled and singled for Machias.

Chase Ross had two singles and an RBI and Buck doubled.

At Bucksport, righthander Brian Ciomei fired a one-hitter over six innings, striking out 11 and not walking anybody, and he also drove in a pair of runs with two singles for the winners.

Peter Peake had two singles and an RBI for Coastal, Tim Guthrie singled twice and Tom Bridges had an RBI double.

Corey Smith’s first-inning single was Ellsworth’s lone hit.

At Machias, Megan Look drove in five runs on three singles and a double to power Machias to the win.

Kayla Wood hit four singles and added three RBIs. Emily Manchester doubled, singled twice, and had two RBIs. Look pitched a two-hitter for the win.

Kayla Higgins tripled and singled for Sunrise.

Baseball, 11-12

District 3

Bangor East 12, Hampden 4

At Bangor East, Christian Dionne smacked a grand slam in the fourth inning as Bangor East rolled to the win.

Kyle Gallant pitched a five-hitter, striking out eight, and hit a two-run homer in the second to go with a single. John Cox hit four singles.

Patrick Stephens led Hampden with a two-run single in the third and Harvey Shue added two singles and an RBI.

Old Town 4, Bangor West 2

At Old Town, Cory Grenier hurled a three-hitter, striking out nine and walking only two, outdueling Bangor West’s Ryan LaRochelle (three hits, eight strikeouts) to propel Old Town.

Evan Paradis sparked the offense with a two-run single. Dana Leeland stroked an RBI single, and Tyler Honey added a single.

Tyler McDade had two singles for Bangor West and Christian Larochelle singled.

Holbrook 6, Lincoln 2

At Lincoln, Greg Higgins launched a two-run double to power Holbrook of Holden to victory.

Tommy Jackson added two singles and knocked in a pair for the winners. Jason Hatt singled, doubled and knocked in two.

Derek Libby rapped an RBI single to pace Lincoln. Tyler White had two singles to go with an RBI.
