Machias Blueberry Festival

MACHIAS — The 17th annual Machias Blueberry Festival, Aug. 14-16, will feature a wild blueberry cooking contest, a musical revue all about wild blueberries and a 5-mile foot race through wild blueberry country.

Other attractions will include an all-you-can-eat blueberry pancake breakfast, a blueberry dessert bar with beverages and the Machias Craft Festival, one of the top craft shows in New England.

Rangeley Lakes Blueberry Festival

RANGELEY — The Rangeley Inn Green on Main St. will be the site of the 18th annual Rangeley Lakes Blueberry Festival. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., this celebration promises blueberry culinary delights such as pies, sauces, jams and cakes along with many other refreshments. Local civic organizations sell crafts, old and new gift items, paper wares, books, pottery and handmade items. Other attractions will include local artists and quilt raffles as well as magic shows, the children. For more information, contact the Rangeley Chamber of Commerce at 864-5364.

Union Fair

UNION — As part of the 33rd annual Union Fair, Aug. 23-29, Blueberry Festival Day on Aug. 28 will be dedicated to blueberry-related events and contests. Friday will begin with a blueberry pancake breakfast served by the outgoing blueberry queen and her princesses.

At lunch time, the ovens will heat up at the “blueberry hut” where free individual blueberry pies will be baked and distributed to fair-goers until early evening. Capping off the day will be the coronation of the state’s new blueberry queen.

For those who want to bring home a taste of wild blueberries, there will be a large exhibit hall with an array of blueberry-related foods, preserves and crafts.
