Rockland woman charged for bad checks

ROCKLAND – Some $700 worth of Wal-Mart merchandise was seized Thursday from the home of a Rockland woman, who was then charged by police for writing $1,500 worth of bad checks, Rockland Deputy Police Chief Wallace Tower said Friday.

Dawn Willey, no age given, was charged with negotiating a worthless instrument after police searched her Rankin Street residence, Tower said, noting that the checks were written against a closed account.

The practice of writing bad checks is fairly common, Tower said, warning that those caught will be prosecuted. He expects several more arrests in connection with the case, which is still under investigation.
