BUCKSPORT – Jenny Wardwell’s goal off a direct kick with 6:45 remaining broke a 2-2 tie and gave Bucksport a 3-2 schoolgirl soccer win over Brewer Friday.
The goal also completed a hat trick for Wardwell, who scored off two direct kicks and one indirect kick.
Aimee Cain had an assist for Bucksport and goalie Sherri Sanna made 18 saves.
Sasha Blood and Emily Burrill scored for Brewer with Alyson Perkins picking up an assist. Brewer goalie Tiffany Trott made five saves.
Brewer won the JV game 3-1.
Searsport 3, Hermon 0
At Searsport, Amber Howard scored three unassisted goals and Joy Richards recorded the shutout as the Vikings opened the season with a win.
Richards made 14 saves, facing 17 shots, for Searsport.
For Hermon, 0-1, goalie Wendy Davis made nine saves, facing 20 shots.
MDI 0, Orono 0 (OT)
At Mount Desert Island, Orono goalie Cheryl Zoerkeide made 16 saves and MDI goalkeepers Chafee Emory (six saves) and Jamey Lewis (eight saves) combined for 14 stops as the teams tied their mutual season-opener.
MDI’s Leah Johnson hit the goalpost with a shot in the second half.
MDI won the JV game 1-0.
Penquis 0, Dexter 0 (2OT)
At Milo, both teams had to settle for the scoreless tie in the season-opener.
For the host Patriots, Andrea Haley made nine saves on 19 shots to gain the tie with the defending Class B state champs.
Marcia Harrington saved 12 of 17 shots for the Dexter Tigers.
Sumner 1, John Bapst 0
At East Sullivan, Robyn Stevens scored the lone goal of the game five minutes into the second half on a pass from Leslee Brenton to give host Sumner the win.
For the 1-0 Sumner Tigers, Susan Love saved seven of 10 shots for the shutout.
Jamie Walls made 12 saves on 19 shots for the 0-1 Crusaders.
Fort Fairfield 5, Limestone 0
At Fort Fairfield, Samantha Hayes had three goals and goalie Kiska Michaud made 13 saves as Fort Fairfield improved its record to 6-3.
Teresa Prue and Erin Nightingale had the other goals for the winners with Tami-Jo McCausland picking up two assists. Prue also had an assist.
Limestone goalie Paula Beaulieu made 21 saves on 34 shots.
Carney, Belskis spark Ashland win
ASHLAND – Holly Carney and Diana Belskis each scored two goals to give the Ashland Hornets a 4-0 victory over the Central Aroostook Panthers in schoolgirl soccer action here Friday.
Hope Carney assisted on one of Holly Carney’s goals for the 4-0 Hornets. Sophomore Alicia Michaud stopped all 10 shots she faced for her third shutout.
For the 6-3 Panthers of Mars Hill, Duska Hewitt made 30 saves on 34 shots.
Madawaska 2, Wisdom 0
At Madawaska, Debbie Jandreau and Karen Libby scored first-half goals and Michelle Hebert stopped six shots to lead Madawaska to its fourth win against three losses and a tie. Wisdom is 3-4-1.
Hebert’s shutout was her second of the season. Leslie Daigle added an assist.
Carrie Ouellette made 20 saves on 33 shots for Wisdom.
Katahdin 2, Lee 1
At Sherman Station, Jodi Dyer’s goal off a Kelly Stubbs assist with 13:02 remaining proved to be the game-winner as Katahdin topped Lee in each team’s opener.
Stubbs had scored on a penalty kick in the first half.
Charlotte Cormier scored for Lee on a penalty kick with only three seconds remaining.
Carrie-Jo McNally and Eryn Cole combined for 12 saves on 27 shots for the winners. Heidi Osgood stopped 22 of 32 shots for Lee.

At Easton, Janet Corneil’s goal on a penalty kick with 35 minutes to go in the game tied the game for the Southern Aroostook Warriors of Dyer Brook as both teams settled for the tie.
Corneil also scored the first goal unassisted for the 1-1-2 Warriors. Shay Fox made nine saves on 11 shots.
For the 1-7 Bears, Lori Geroulo scored on a Ronnee Wortman assist and Dedra Ireland scored on a penalty kick. Melanie Cleaves saved 18 of 20 shots.
