Worthley, Bright lead HA Broncs past Bucks 2-0

BUCKSPORT – Shelly Worthley and Amy Bright each scored a goal to lift the Hampden Academy Broncos to a 2-0 victory over the Bucksport Golden Bucks in schoolgirl soccer action here Monday.

Worthley booted in an unassisted goal 9:17 into the first half for the winners, now 3-1. Bright came back with 15:26 left in the game to give the Broncos an insurance goal as she converted off a pass from Angela Faulkner.

Hampden goalie Becky Huson recorded the shutout, making six saves on eight shots. Amy Cattelle finished in goal, but didn’t face any shots.

For the Golden Bucks, now 1-1-1, netkeeper Sherri Sanna finished with 10 saves on 17 shots.

Hampden won the JV game 2-1.

Sumner 2, Ellsworth 1 (2OT)

At East Sullivan, Robin Stevens headed in the game-winner on a pass from Natalie Mason with two minutes left in the second overtime.

Marnie Pinkham had scored the first goal for the 2-1 Tigers on Tonya Wilkinson’s pass.

For the 1-3 Eagles, Amy King had an unassisted goal.

In the Sumner goal, Susan Lowe chalked up 10 saves on 14 shots.

Jessica Cross of Ellsworth had four saves on seven shots.

Hermon 2, Orono 1

At Hermon, Tori Adams’ unassisted goal with 2:46 left in the game proved to be the game-winner and lifted Hermon to a 1-3 record.

Heather Pace had scored earlier for the Hawks off a Janis Adams assist. Wendy Davis made four saves in net, facing six shots.

For Orono, 0-2-2, Amy Wloclarski scored the lone goal unassisted. Cheryl Zuerhide made six saves in net, facing 16 shots.

Hermon won the JV game 4-2.

GSA 3, Searsport 1

At Searsport, Wendy Marcinkus had a pair of goals and goalie Polly Dodge made six saves on eight shots as George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill improved its record to 2-1.

Mandy Wardwell had the other Stevens goal.

Jen Russ scored on a penalty kick for 3-1 Searsport and goalie Joy Richard made five stops on 14 shots.

Brewer 4, Nokomis 0

At Newport, Denise Hewes scored a pair of goals and added an assist to help lift the Witches past the Warriors of Nokomis.

Emily Burrill posted a goal and an assist for the 2-1-1 Witches, while Brynn Clough scored on Chandra Blood’s pass.

Brewer goalminder Tiffany Pratt stopped six of eight shots.

Goalie Tanya Walker of 1-3 Nokomis had 11 saves on 17 shots.

Caribou 1, Hampden 0

At Hampden Saturday, Emily Smith scored the game’s only goal at 2:11 of the first half off an assist by Christine Solman as Caribou improved to 3-0-4.

Goalie Tricia Martin recorded the shutout for the Vikings, making five saves on seven Hampden shots.

For Hampden, 2-1, Becky Huson made 20 saves in net, facing 31 shots.

Katahdin 4, SAHS 1

At Dyer Brook, Melaine Shippee and Kelly Stubbs posted a pair of goals each as the Cougars from Sherman Station downed the host Southern Aroostook girls.

Stubbs also had an assist for 2-1 Katahdin as did Tara Polcock.

For SAHS, Janet Corneil scored on an assist by Jessica Walker.

Cougar goalies Carrie Jo McNally and Eryn Cole teamed for seven saves on eight shots.

For the 2-3-2 Warriors, Shay Fox had 19 saves on 23 Katahdin shots on goal.

Ashland 2, CAHS 1

At Mars Hill, Diane Belskis posted the game-winning goal at the 36:55 mark of the first half from Alicia Nason’s assist as the Ashland Hornets remained unbeaten at 7-0. Ashland had defeated the Panthers 4-0 last week.

Celeste Michaud of the Hornets opened the scoring at 9:24 on Misty Craig’s assist. Central Aroostook tied it at the 19:45 mark on Carly Smith’s goal off Stephanie Stiles’ assist.

In goal for Ashland, Alicia Michaud had seven saves on eight shots; for 9-4 Central Aroostook, Duska Hewitt had 22 saves on 24 shots.

Houlton 5, Madawaska 0

At Houlton, Jenny O’Leary scored two goals and Tina McAfee made five saves on eight shots as the Shiretowners improved their record to 6-1-4.

Kristen Askren had a goal and two assists for the winners with the other goals being scored by Melissa Pottle and Jenny Noonan. Jill Donato and Jessica Sullivan had an assist apiece.

Michelle Hebert made 20 saves on 25 shots for Madawaska. Arndt, Bonenfant lead Wildcats past Warriors 2-0

FORT KENT – Courtney Arndt and Becky Bonenfant each scored unassisted goals as the visiting Presque Isle Wildcats shut out the Fort Kent Warriors 2-0 in schoolgirl soccer action Monday.

Goalkeeper Jen White posted the shutout with four saves on 11 shots as the Wildcats upped their record to 4-1-3.

For the 5-4 Warriors, netkeeper Melissa Voisine had four saves on 10 shots.
