World Food Day activities

A lecture and teleconference have been scheduled at the University of Maine to celebrate 1992 World Food Day.

On Oct. 15, the eve of World Food Day, Ron Kroese, executive director of the Land Stewardship Project, will discuss “Disarming Farming: Ending Agriculture’s War on the Land.” The lecture will be held at 7 p.m. in 101 Neville Hall, University of Maine.

Kroese’s talk will be followed by the Ninth World Food Day Teleconference: “Nutrition: Linking Food, Health and Development” from noon to 3 p.m. on Oct. 16 in 219 Alumni Hall. Co-discussion leaders will be Nellie Hedstrom, Extension nutrition and health specialist, and Debra Lippoldt, Extension educator.

World Food Day was created by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization to focus attention on all food and farm problems.

Founded in 1982, the Land Stewardship Project, is a non-profit organization devoted to developing and promoting sustainable agriculture practices and policies.
