BANGOR DAILY NEWS (BANGOR, MAINE

Contrary to what some politicians would have us believe, the 99/33 proposal, an effort to reduce the size of the Legislature, is hardly a serious attempt to save taxpayer dollars and improve the efficiency of the legislative process. It is a simplistic attempt to get votes.

Leave the size of the Legislature alone and get down to business by reducing the number of days in session. If 99/33 is adopted, a larger staff will result, but most importantly, rural areas’ representation will diminish and Maine’s farming community will surely suffer. Peter W. Curra Knox
