BUCKSPORT — Peter Carleton, a licensed therapist in counseling and substance-abuse treatment, has announced the opening of a private practice in Bucksport.
Carleton says his approach is humanistic and draws heavily from Eastern philosophy. Rather than diagnose and treat “problems” and “pathology,” he stresses growth and change and the integration of body, mind and spirit.
“My focus is a blend of Western psychology and spirituality,” Carleton said. “I strive to help clients grow beyond the limitations imposed by gender, race, social class, family upbringing, and physical and mental handicaps.”
Carleton moved from the Portland area three years ago to Bangor where he worked at Eastern Maine Medical Center and Acadia Health’s Options Program. He resides in Dedham with his wife, Jan, who is a speech therapist at Eastern Maine Medical Center.
He is accepting referrals of men, women, adolescents and couples. Daytime and evening appointments are available. His services are reimbursable through most insurances but not Medicaid and Medicare.
His office may be reached by calling 469-2370.
