Santa Claus, elves to arrive Friday afternoon at Caribou

CARIBOU — The Chamber of Commerce has announced that Santa Claus will arrive by sleigh with three elves at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27, at the Lions Community Center.

They will be escorted by the Caribou Police Department and Caribou Fire Department to Bennett Drive. At 3 p.m., the caravan will go to the downtown area.

At about 4 p.m., Verne McKenney, deputy mayor, will assist Santa in the lighting of the Christmas tree in the downtown mall area. Carolers from the United Baptist Church will be present. The public is invited.

A schedule of Santa’s visits from Nov. 28 to Dec. 5 may be obtained from the chamber office.

Chamber officials also have announced that preschool and kindergarten children will decorate 10 trees located in stores throughout the city on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Nov. 30, Dec. 1 and 2.

The project is to benefit needy families.

Area residents may cast votes for their favorite tree by placing a non-perishable item under the tree. Votes will be counted on Dec. 18 when two winning trees will be selected.

The trees will be at these businesses: Caribou Motor Inn, L.S. Hall, Key Bank, Kid’s Stuff, J.J. Newberry, People’s Bank, Shop ‘n Save, Sweden Street Plaza, Sullivan’s Floor Covering and P.L. Willey.
