Last year, I believe, a beautiful Colorado blue spruce Christmas tree passed through downtown Bangor on a flatbed truck. My thoughts were, when I saw it, what a shame to cut down such a beautiful tree for a one-time use, only. I also thought, wouldn’t it be better to plant a tree somewhere in the city, watch it grow, use it year after year for the holidays and to be enjoyed for generations to come.

Washington, D.C., has such a tree. Why can’t Bangor, Maine, do the same? … Claudette McGeorge Bangor
