HAMPDEN – The driver of a small car pulled out in front of a tractor-trailer on Interstate 95 Tuesday night, prompting the truck to drive into the median and roll over. That caused minor injuries and major traffic problems.
Both the car and truck were heading south in the travel lane about 10:30 p.m., when Jayme Gibson, 18, the driver of the 1991 Dodge Shadow, slowed down, reported State Trooper Seth Edwards. The truck’s driver, Bradley Janeway, 29, of Ontario, pulled out into the passing lane, but then so did Gibson, and the car was struck by the truck, which was hauling lumber.
Gibson complained of back and neck pain and was airlifted to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. She was treated and released early Wednesday. Janeway was not injured, Edwards said.
The accident stopped traffic for about an hour. When traffic resumed, it was reduced to one lane using the breakdown lane to pass the wreckage. Bangor and Hampden fire departments, as well as state troopers and Hampden police were on the scene to assist in the incident.
Edwards said that no charges would be filed in the incident.
