Penobscot Job Corps

BANGOR – Penobscot Job Corps’ will hold its graduation celebration at 2 p.m. Aug. 9 in the gymnasium.

The school will hold its open house noon-6 p.m. Aug. 10, featuring games, vocational demos, bands and blueberry bake-off. Activities will be held noon-4 p.m., and a barbecue 4-6 p.m. on the campus at 1375 Union St. For information, call 990-3000.

Columbia University

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Colin Pile of Bangor and Sarah Kovenock of Orono were named to the dean’s list for the spring 2002 semester at Columbia University.

Ithaca College

ITHACA, N.Y. – Joshua Schwartz graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Ithaca College. A graduate of Brewer High School, Schwartz is a resident of Bar Harbor.

Kip McCarthy graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in cinema and photography from Ithaca College. He was the recipient of the 2002 Cinema Production Senior Award, and was a member of Oracle and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies. A graduate of John Bapst Memorial High School in Bangor, McCarthy is resident of Millinocket.

Kristen Tracewski has been named to the dean’s list at Ithaca College for the spring 2002 semester. A resident of Old Town, she is a clinical science-physical therapy major.

University of Delaware

NEWARK, Del. – Adam Edward Porter of Bangor received a bachelor’s degree with honors from the University of Delaware.

University of Maine

ORONO – Nicholas Jeffrey Wood of Bangor accepted membership in The National Society of Collegiate Scholars and will be honored during a campus ceremony this fall at the University of Maine.

The National Society of Collegiate Scholars is a selective national, nonprofit honors organization. The society also has as its goal to help students develop leadership skills and a sense of civic responsibility.

ORONO – Fans of the 2001 Atlantic 10 Co-Championship University of Maine Football team can now purchase a Black Bear season ticket to assure themselves a seat location for every home football game this fall.

UMaine football season tickets are on sale at the Athletic Ticket Office located in Alfond Arena. Tickets may be purchased on a walk-in basis or by calling the ticket office at (800) 756-TEAMor 581-BEAR.

Season tickets are $55 each for adults, and $40 for youths or senior citizens for all five games in Orono. Single-game UMaine tickets, not available until later this month, will cost $12 for adults, and $9 for youths and seniors. Tickets to all UMaine Football games are reserved.

Tickets for the UMaine vs. Central Connecticut game at Portland’s Fitzpatrick Stadium, Aug. 31, went on sale Aug. 5.

Parents are encouraged to take advantage of the “Family Pack” for $130. Purchasers receive two adult and two youth admissions for all five UMaine home games, a $190 value.

The Black Bears were 9-3 last year in earning a share of the A-10 title. UMaine did not lose a home game, becoming just the second team since 1965 (1989, 6-0), to finish a season undefeated at home. Coach Jack Cosgrove’s crew takes an eight-game home winning streak into the 2002 season and on Sept. 7 will face William & Mary at Alfond Stadium.
