Lewiston, Nokomis advance

NEWPORT – Lewiston and host Nokomis High advanced to the state coed volleyball finals after Northern Maine High School Coed Volleyball League action here last weekend.

By wininng semifinals, Lewiston and Nokomis will take part in the state tourney March 20 at Yarmouth Middle School. Lewiston advanced with a 12-15, 17-15, 15-6 win over Leavitt I; Nokomis advanced by defeating Leavitt III 17-15 and 15-6. In final matches for position, Lewiston beat Nokomis 15-8 and Leavitt I downed Leavitt III 15-13. Leavitt I was the runnerup alternate.

Taking part in the tourney were three teams from Leavitt of Turner, two from Nokomis and one from Lewiston. The tourney was sponsored by the Maine School Volleyball Association.

No. 1 in the West was Gray-New GHloucester HS with Morse of Bath second and Windham third.
